FSI ABM Activation Playbook

An 18-play account-based marketing system that moved financial-services accounts from awareness through conversion using consistent audience, channel, content, and measurement logic.

01

Business challenge

Financial-services buying committees span data, analytics, architecture, AI, governance, risk, and economic stakeholders. The program needed to stay relevant across that complexity while giving marketing and sales clear actions at each stage of account engagement.

02

My role

I designed the playbook structure and authored the activation logic. I organized target personas and pain themes, created stage-specific plays, mapped channels to content destinations, defined behavioral conversion signals, and connected those signals to SDR and AE follow-up.

03

Strategy

  • Applied one 4D framework to every play: Data defined the audience and trigger, Distribution defined the channel, Destination defined the next experience, and Direction defined the measurable action.
  • Built the journey across four stages—awareness, initial engagement, meaningful engagement, and conversion—so each interaction advanced the account instead of repeating the same message.
  • Developed five connected message territories around inconsistent KPIs, legacy OLAP, dashboard and compute cost, explainable AI, and audit readiness.
  • Used account behavior and content engagement to determine the next best action, including retargeting, deeper education, personalized outreach, or technical validation.

04

Execution

  • Created 18 activation plays spanning paid and organic LinkedIn, email nurture, SDR and AE outreach, webinars, content hubs, comparison pages, calculators, demos, and executive experiences.
  • Tailored plays for analytics and BI leaders, data engineers, platform owners, AI and data-strategy teams, governance leaders, compliance stakeholders, and economic buyers.
  • Matched each audience to a specific destination such as a blog, whitepaper, product comparison, microsite, interactive tool, webinar, or demo page.
  • Defined progression signals including CTA clicks, repeat visits, scroll depth, video completion, downloads, calculator completion, form conversion, and meeting bookings.

05

What the playbook enabled

  • Gave marketing and sales one stage-based structure for coordinating outreach to complex buying committees.
  • Connected campaign content to observable account behavior and a defined follow-up action.
  • Made every play easier to brief, activate, measure, and extend across channels without losing audience context.
